Dr. Hsiao-Ying Shadow Huang appointed Associate Director of the AIF

The AIF announces the appointment of Dr. Hsiao-Ying Shadow Huang, Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, as Associate Director, effective August 22. Dr. Huang joins the faculty leadership team consisting of Director Jacob Jones and Associate Director Jim LeBeau, both faculty members in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

In this role, Dr. Huang will lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan for AIF to better serve biological and life sciences researchers including, but not limited to, cryo-electron microscopy and associated sample preparation capabilities as well as other imaging and characterization needs that are synergistic with AIF’s current capabilities and directions.

Dr. Huang’s teaching and research interests span the areas of mechanics of materials, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, continuum mechanics and nonlinear elasticity. Dr. Huang’s research programs are centered on understanding the structures/mechanics of cardiovascular and musculoskeletal biological tissues and the electrochemical-mechanical interactions in lithium-ion batteries and metal-air batteries.

Dr. Huang joined NC State in 2010 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016. She is recipient of the NSF CAREER award (2016) and holds a courtesy appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

The AIF extends deep gratitude to Dr. Melissa Pasquinelli, Professor of Textile, Engineering, Chemistry, and Science, who served in this role prior to Dr. Huang.
