Dr. Aaron Bell appointed Bio-EM Staff Scientist of the AIF

The AIF announces the appointment of Dr. Aaron Bell as the Bio-EM Staff Scientist for our facility effective June 3rd. This position was created as part of AIF’s strategic movement into cryo-EM techniques, service to soft-matter researchers, and in collaboration with faculty in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Crop and Soil Sciences, and Plant and Microbial Biology.

Dr. Bell has over 15 years of EM experience, most recently as the Manager of the Neuropathology Brain Bank & Research Core in the Icahn School of Medicine in NYC. Prior to Icahn, he was Head of Confocal and Electron Microscopy at the New York Blood Center. He received his PhD (2008) in Biological Sciences from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Bell’s past research interests have spanned several fields including left-right asymmetry determination utilizing protistan model systems, ciliary signal transduction, autism utilizing Drosophila models, parasitic nematodes in disease transmission, as well as neurodegenerative research using human tissue, 3D cell culture and mouse models.  Dr. Bell has spent the past 7 years assisting numerous researchers in furthering their research goals at both the New York Blood Center and Neuropathology Brain Bank & Research Core.
