X-ray Computed Tomography

Additive manufacturing has the promise to revolutionize the way we think about and design components and materials. At NC State, Dr. Tim Horn and his group at CAMAL are working on developing new alloys for additive manufacturing as well as developing process monitoring and in-situ control. When evaluating process monitoring methods, non-destructive X-ray Computed Tomography can be used to find the ground truth of what the real defects look like in a sample. Here, a CrCo sample has been evaluated by Anton Jansson using the Zeiss Xradia 510 Versa at AIF to characterize designed internal defects.
