AIF Ceasing On-Campus Research Support

Dear Users and PIs of the Analytical Instrumentation Facility (AIF),

On March 17, NC State announced additional distancing measures for students and employees with the requirement that all non-mandatory employees shift to working remotely. On March 18, NC State announced additional instructions for research activities, with the requirement that on-campus research operations should cease immediately.

Effective immediately, the AIF equipment and laboratories are no longer available for user activities. The performance of on-campus service work for internal and external clients is also ceasing. The AIF staff have been instructed to remove all scheduled sessions and prevent scheduling of future sessions starting immediately.

Exceptions to the shutdown mandate require university approval. The AIF is prepared to assist with exception requests, but such requests should be discussed immediately (today, Thursday, 3/19). If a user is doing research related to coronavirus or is performing work critical to the supply chain of medical supplies including but not limited to coronavirus testing, respirators, and face masks, please let me know immediately.

All AIF staff will continue to work remotely per NC State policies on teleworking and are available via email or cell phone. In this time of distancing, I am sure they would readily welcome a Skype or Zoom call to connect to a smiling face.

This remains an evolving situation and will be constantly monitored. Updates on the NC State response to COVID-19 can be found here. If you have a question related to AIF during this unique period of time, don’t hesitate to contact me individually at jacobjones@ncsu.edu.

Regards,
Jacob L. Jones
