AIF Seeks Multiple Undergraduate Student Employees

The AIF is seeking to hire multiple undergraduate students as hourly employees. Students will work in the Analytical Instrumentation Facility (AIF) to primarily support one of the following laboratories: X-ray diffraction (XRD), surface analysis lab, X-ray computed tomography (CT) lab, or electron microscopy (EM) labs. The duties of the students are diverse and range from the operation of certain state-of-the-art analytical instruments to critical support functions such as cleaning sample holders and changing water filters. The student employees will typically become familiar with vacuum, electrical, and plumbing components that are associated with the instruments, as well as exposure to multiple analytical techniques and a wide variety of materials. The student employees will be trained on at least one major instrument with the expectation that they operate it independently. Progress will be mentored on a daily basis by a trained AIF full-time staff member. During the school year, hours are flexible because of course work but about 8 hours per week would be expected. Full-time employment is expected for summer student employees.

To be considered for these positions, please submit a cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcript to aif-contact@ncsu.edu as soon as possible. The cover letter should address your qualifications for employment in the AIF, why such an experience is of interest to you, and how the experience will help you to achieve your professional goals.

Applications will be reviewed upon submission, so interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible and May 14 at the latest.
