Sep 21st and 22nd, 2015 – K-12 Education at AIF

The NCSU Analytical Instrumentation Facility (AIF) opened its doors to group of visiting middle- and high-school students from Centennial Campus Middle School and Durham Academy on September 21 and 22. AIF staff members introduced these guests to state-of-the-art instrumentation used to identify elemental information, crystal structures of materials and image materials at the nanometer length scale . A highlight of the day included demonstrations on XPS and XRD to show the middle school students atomic structure and crystal orientation. Students for Durham Academy have been introduced to XRD, focused ion beam and Titan TEM.
