Raman Tutorial Success

AIF sponsored a Raman Spectroscopy Tutorial on January 29th and 30th, 2019. The tutorial was presented by a visiting scientist, Dr. Marco Deluca, from Leoben, Austria, who is well known in the field. The response of attending this tutorial was overwhelming. 55 attendees came, including people from UNC Chapel Hill, NC A&T State University, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Duke, University of Virginia, Clemson University, NC State, and several local companies.

The lectures on the first day covered the theory of Raman spectroscopy, identification of Raman vibrations, Raman instrumentation, spectral fitting, and examples of ceramic, semiconductor, and polymeric studies.

The second day was divided into four sessions of actual analyses on our instrument. Each session was attended by approximately 8-12 people. Attendees were encouraged to submit samples for analysis in these sessions and analyses were made on a wide range of materials.

The response both in attendance and in the participation in the analytical sessions was very positive. Dr. Deluca spent considerable effort in the two days and we were very grateful for his contributions. We hope to repeat this event at a future date.
